China equities’ recent rally has raised the bar for an upside surprise

Lady Gaga is ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker:
Folie à Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects to help distract from the furor over the film, insiders claim.
Todd Phillips‘ sequel was officially released in theaters on October 4,
but despite expectations, it bombed, raking in just under $40 million at the domestic box office,
and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as
Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker –
a role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of
the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response
it received from critics before it premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘She put so much heart into the movie and
has so much respect for the DC comics fan base.’

Tarantino was set to create The Movie Critic which would have been his tenth and final film, but on April 17,
sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the project was canceled.
The famed director is now believed to be working up a new project to mark
his final cinematic release.
The singer’s team is now keen to push out other projects to help
distract from the backlash, insiders have told DailyMail.com
Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office, with the
psychological musical thriller also landing the lowest
CinemaScore for a comic book movie
Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is hoping the Joker 2
flop will just be a small blip in her career, after the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier
this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the higher score of C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled
to around $200 million for Folie À Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month, where it
earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel,
which features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one
on X. ‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the
original wasn’t a musical.’
An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it
after the response it received from critics before
it premiered’
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared
a third, along with a monkey staring out a window.
One fan branded it ‘bad,’ adding:’ It was pretentious and dull.
Has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.
‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming too.
They shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’

Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene, which saw Phoenix’s
Arthur Fleck brutally stabbed to death by a fellow inmate who could in fact
by the real Joker.
But others did jump in in defense of the film, with one hailing
it ‘amazing.’
‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be,’ they continued.
‘I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’

Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first
time author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online,
in newspapers and on TV and radio.
And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge –
The Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out.
Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him
being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily
Mail Australia his book is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.
Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct
line to Alan Joyce’.
The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights
by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese got upgrades for were
‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot.
He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his
employment history.
‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal
Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister
said.
But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of
Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked
for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of
Cook before Scott Morrison.
‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night,
just before his book launch.
Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave
the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made.
‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with
public figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part
in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial Review columnist,
wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to advice at this point’.
‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s
blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).
‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you ask Qantas for confirmed upgrades on your
private holidays when you were the Transport Minister? The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying to avoid saying it.’
Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer himself to
the anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.
Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many
people are struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest blow to his credibility has
led to calls for him to resign.
Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.
‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to
get this far. I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the book will learn that this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
This book is about Qantas.
‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the aisle,
Labor, Liberal, National, you name it. They’ve been doing
it for more than a generation.
‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia. I’m not here trying to get a scalp.
That’s not what this book is about and it never was.’
But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors the conversations being had
across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese.
‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with the freebie mindset of politicians,’
he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to him,
is what I’ve seen.
‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at
the front row of the Australian Open Tennis.
‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every year for 12 years and
he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).
‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the International Grand Slam.
He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.
‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it
looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And
I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’
In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their
flight can be upgraded.
The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.
‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s
in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes,
you’ll get upgraded.
‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where
the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.
‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the only person at
Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades is the
CEO. No other executive can do that.
‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’
Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his time as
a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to get up there.
‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to go back.
‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve
got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …
‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around
in the front of the plane on personal travel.
‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’
Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.
But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events.
Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.
‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret deals were done in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.
Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands of dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was
relatively unknown.
It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas had even started,
when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.
And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007 were rosy for Labor.
The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see
Kevin Rudd become prime minister and John Howard lose his own seat.
The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s
Lounge then wasn’t about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and Kevin Rudd
were certainly both members during their terms as PM.
But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time
Chairman’s Lounge member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the
club’s hallowed walls, the cat was out of the bag.
The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government – did not
deter his party from romping in on election day.
In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.

exploded into the public conscience in 2007 as the result of a political furore
Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge
member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let the cat out of the bag about the

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that in defending
his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to explain what the private enclave actually was.
In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s
Lounge is a separate frequent flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club.
‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are approved by the Qantas
chairman, Margaret Jackson.
‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’
In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter
Richard Wilkins was also a member of lounge.
Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.
Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes
reporters, actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be
among the lounge’s exclusive membership of around 6000.
Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him
to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting Qantas on his radio show.

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock membership
of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly
to enable our elite politicians and business leaders some privacy from the
hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at the time.
‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,’ he said,
accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.
The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.
Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have to be personally
invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.
‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega rich and
powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will be travelling cattle
class.
‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included Pauline Hanson.
‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the controversial, invitation-only lounge
with one even describing it as an ‘entitlement’.
Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very
high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level of influence
over the country’s politicians.
They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new
book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both
Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the Senate – revealed
almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to
the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.
Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest statements.
At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of his upgrades ‘have
been declared as appropriate. What’s appropriate is transparency.’
Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.
Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are members of
the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating the airline.
Senior public servants in the club included Department of
Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis,
deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and
ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.
Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class flight
upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.
Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the
Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs –
in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports
– are suitably discreet.
Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably luxurious, with free à la
carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and
a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.
Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the
‘Beyond’ lounge.
Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their membership to the Qantas Chairman’s
Lounge in the wake of the furore.
The select few to take a principled stand on the issue include South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and
former Wallabies star turned ACT senator David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates,
Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan,
a Teal from Victoria.
Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against
Corruption and a director of the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all politicians and
policymakers to follow suit.
‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.
‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent the public.

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International Inc is working on options to exit the Russian market, citing a complex and rapidly
changing regulatory and operating environment in the
country following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all product
launches for the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks,

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive

As their race for the US presidency comes down to the
wire, each major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald
Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of
fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to
President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every
ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door
to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and, while
they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several
Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights,
Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several

said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity
among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez,

“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions,
he conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he
said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered
the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police
who work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists
hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with
the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a
professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring
Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns
about “government interference,” she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language
on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,”
said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

Futures: Dow up 0.02%, S&P 500 down 0.02%, Nasdaq down 0.1%
Dec 5 (Reuters) – U.S. stock index futures were muted on Thursday, pulling back after all three
major indexes posted all-time closing highs in the last session,
with focus on more employment-related data this week.
The S&P 500, the Nasdaq and the blue-chip Dow clocked record closing highs on Wednesday
as technology shares rallied after upbeat results from the likes of Salesforce and Marvell Technology.
Speaking on Wednesday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said the economy is stronger now than the central bank had expected in September, and appeared to signal his support for a slower pace of interest-rate
cuts ahead.
San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Mary Daly,
in the meantime, said that “there’s no sense of urgency” on cutting rates.
Comments from Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin would be on the radar later
in the day.
Still, traders currently see a 74% chance of the Fed easing its monetary policy by 25-basis-points
later this month, as per CME’s FedWatch Tool.
On the day, a reading of weekly jobless claims due before markets open would be awaited, in lead-up to this week’s centerpiece, the monthly jobs data on Friday.
“Ahead of a ‘live’ Fed policy meeting in December, we expect special factors including weather, the resolved Boeing strike and election effects to cloud the read on the job market,” BNP Paribas economists wrote in a note.
“Our forecasts imply a November jobs report that is just ambiguous enough – strong job growth but a slight rise in unemployment, alongside moderate gains in pay – to keep a December rate cut as our base case.”
Although markets have reached the eclipse of the
earnings seasons, quarterly results from Dollar
General and Kroger would be on the watchlist before markets open.
At 5:08 a.m. ET, Dow E-minis were up 9 points, or 0.02%, S&P 500 E-minis
were down 1.25 points, or 0.02% and Nasdaq 100 E-minis were down 22 points,
or 0.1%.
Cryptocurrency- and blockchain-related stocks jumped in premarket trading after bitcoin,
the world’s largest cryptocurrency, stormed above the $100,000 mark for
the first time.
Exchange operator Coinbase Global rose 3.4%, miner MARA Holdings added 6.3% and
the largest corporate holder of bitcoin MicroStrategy advanced 6.1%.
SentinelOne dropped 14.7% after the cybersecurity firm
missed Wall Street estimates for third-quarter profit.
Synopsys fell 7.4% after the chip design software firm forecast fiscal 2025 revenue below Wall Street expectations thanks in part to

Solar power is a great way to cut down on your electricity
bill. You can pretty much get solar power
by using solar energy panels, which you can either make yourself or that you can buy already made.
Choosing diy vs. commercial solar panels can be a real tough decision to make.
Below is 2 great reasons why I would choose to
create my own solar power panels rather then go to the store and buy them.
Reason #1- They Are Too Expensive
Most cases when people buy the panels to save on their electric bill they aren’t
really saving at all. This is due to the fact that solar panel systems cost in the 1,
000’s and 10,000’s of dollars. Many systems that are bought will most likely not pay for themselves
for at least 15-20 years because of the amount that you have to pay
for the panels and the cost of installation will not overpower the amounts you are saving on your electric bill every month.
People who use diy solar panels rather than commercial panels can cut down greatly on the cost.
This is because most of the materials you will need aren’t that expensive to get a hold of so
you can end up with very affordable panels.
Reason #2 – They Aren’t Replaceable
The second reason why you shouldn’t commercial panels when deciding
between diy vs. commercial solar panels is because if the solar panels are damaged and you don’t have a warranty on them then you will either
have to make due without them or you have to go and repurchase the panels.
They would then have to be installed again which will cost more than just
the solar panels themselves.
Your panels could end up breaking for a couple of reasons.
For one the solar panels aren’t the most durable objects because they can be damaged easily.
The damage would be most likely be caused by a bad storm which could cause the panel to come off of the roof, hit the ground and shatter.
Once these panels are broken you won’t be able to have it fixed cheaply.
If you decided to use a diy solar power panel guide that has taught you
how to create your own then you won’t have to
worry about this. The reason is that if one
of your home made panels do break you will have the knowledge to buy the
materials and build another one.
These two reasons are really why in a decision of diy vs.
commercial solar panel I would always pick to make my own. In general it would more time consuming but in the end it would
be worth it because I will be able to save 1,000’s of dollars and have the ability to create as many solar energy panels as I want.

Tim Dillon, who makes a brief appearance in Joker: Folie à Deux,
has described the new sequel as ‘terrible’ and ‘the worst film ever made’.
The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker)
and Lady Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before its October
4 release and flopped at the box office.
Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s new film has
‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said:
‘It’s the worst film ever made.
‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh,
this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds
of people. This sent the wrong kind of message.

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its
release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the
domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections,
and half that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking
away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element
not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding
that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully
committed to the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it
was structured as a meta-exploration of the first
film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’

Feb 2 (Reuters) – Tobacco giants Philip Morris International and
British American Tobacco said on Friday they had agreed to resolve a multitude of ongoing patent infringement disputes
relating to their cigarette alternatives.
The cigarette makers had been fighting a multi-front patent dispute
that has hurt both sides.
BAT, which makes Vuse vapes and Glo heated tobacco devices, was ordered to pay PMI millions of dollars after losing one case, while PMI has been blocked from importing its flagship
heated tobacco device IQOS into the United States as part of another.
Under the non-monetary, worldwide settlement, which lasts for eight years, the companies have
agreed to dismiss all pending patent infringement cases, according to statements and
filings from the companies. It also prevents future
claims against current products.
A PMI filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission added that under the agreement the parties will also request the block on IQOS imports into the United
States to be rescinded – a key win for PMI as it looks to bring
the device to the critical market this year.
“We are pleased that this matter has been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of both parties,” said Jacek Olczak, PMI’s Chief Executive Officer.
“This agreement is an important step forward for BAT and all our stakeholders,” BAT Chief Executive Officer Tadeu Marroco said, adding it will allow the company to focus
on innovation.
The agreement allows both companies to introduce
future iterations of their products, they added in separate statements.
Shares in BAT briefly spiked after the news. They were up 1.4%
at 1235 GMT. PMI’s stock was flat in thin pre-market trading.
